The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is currently recruiting for multiple Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), limited-term employment (LTE) positions to join the Nursing Services team. WVHK is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O' Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary

Our LPNs provide quality, routine direct and indirect patient care on a unit. Duties include: assisting the Registered Nurse in making critical observations of clients and assisting in complex care situations; working directly with families; providing assistance in personal care; administering and documenting treatments and medication; participating in the maintenance of care unit; and working with an interdisciplinary team.

Salary Information

 

The wage is between $28.00 and $33.14 per hour. 

This job does not offer employee benefits.

The position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-05  

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

 

These are flexible part-time positions with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Shifts are available AM (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), PM (2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), holidays and weekends, and include pay differentials.

LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.

Job duties require the ability to move, reposition and transport patients, stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day to provide assessments, sit, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Qualifications

 

These jobs require licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

In addition to this requirement, minimally qualified applicants will have experience: 

  • Providing basic nursing care; and
  • Administering medications with attention to drug properties and possible side effects; and
  • Working collaboratively; and
  • Using computers and applications

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

  • Providing advanced practical nursing care; and/or
  • Performing nursing duties in a long-term care, geriatric, skilled nursing, or similar setting 

Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments. The definition of Wisconsin residency for LTE employment can be found here.
