Introduction

 

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA), Construction and Facility Management Office (CFMO), is seeking a Limited Term Employment Capital Projects Specialist position in Madison. 

Our convenient location is near Madison College and adjacent to the Dane County Regional Airport with access to major highways. Our facility includes a fantastic fitness center, indoor pickleball court, and free on-site parking. 

The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. During emergencies, no single organization can handle the response. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status. However, they lead to great work experience opportunities.

Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for managing simple construction projects at Department of Military Affairs (DMA) facilities. Examples of simple construction projects would include roofing projects, dumpster enclosure projects, and building envelope projects (windows, etc.). This position performs various activities related to the management of these kinds of projects and serves as a liaison between facility user groups, the State of Wisconsin Division of Facilities Development (DFD), and contracted Architecture and Engineer (A&E) and construction firms on roofing and exterior building envelope projects, and advocates for work and products that are in the best interest of the DMA. 

Salary Information

 

Pay is between $21.00 and $23.00 per hour. 

Job Details

 

To gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check. 

Some travel may be required.

Limited Term Employees must be a resident of Wisconsin.

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. 

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment.  All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Previous or current military experience is not a requirement. 

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

 

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will have training and/or experience with:

  • Construction engineering principles and project management 
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating building projects
  • Communicating and collaborating with inside and outside stakeholders
  • MS Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook)
