Position Summary

 

The Nurse Aide Mentor is an advanced-level Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position and performs a wide variety of nursing care activities in both complex and non-complex care situations; implements Person-centered Plans of Care and acts as mentor to other CNAs. Duties are performed on a unit with geriatric and/or disabled residents of WVHK. Responsibilities include providing ongoing training/guidance to CNAs; participating in data collection for monitoring of care, quality assurance studies and portions of the Minimum Data Set; keeping daily member care plans and electronic records up to date; maintaining needed levels of supplies; and participating in health care and rehabilitation team meetings.

Salary Information

 

Starting pay is between $27.22 and $30.63 per hour, based on seniority in Wisconsin state civil service, with additional pay for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, plus an attractive employee benefits package.

Sign-on bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires. The first $1000 will be paid in the employee's first paycheck and the second $1000 will be paid when the employee attains permanent status.

Nursing Assistant 3 is in pay schedule-pay range 06-12. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

 

This position is on the AM shift.

Job duties require lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds occasionally, carrying up to 20 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds frequently, pinching up to 10 pounds frequently, standing or walking up to 100% of an 8-hour shift, and the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, reach, run, bend, twist, climb and crawl; work in sitting, kneeling or squatting positions; maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment and wear protective clothing.

Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

 

This position requires an active Wisconsin Nurse Aide certification.

In addition, minimally qualified applicants will provide details in their resume and letter on their experience:

  • working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility; and
  • training others to perform tasks

Additional required and preferred experience that will be assessed later in the selection process are:

  • updating and maintaining patient records; and
  • using computers to complete work tasks; and
  • working and communicating on a team; and/or
  • reviewing the work of others and providing feedback; and/or
  • using Microsoft applications to complete work tasks; and/or
  • utilizing resources appropriately
