Are you a person who enjoys providing excellent customer service, while making a difference in the lives of adolescents?  The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring an Operations Program Associate. This position is located at Challenge Academy, Fort McCoy. 

The Wisconsin Challenge Academy is a residential alternative education program designed to reclaim the lives of youth and produce graduates with the education, strength of character, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults and become responsible citizens. Position Summary

 

This position, under the general supervision of the Director, performs paraprofessional administrative work for the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Program.  This is the sole administrative support position handling decisions on behalf of the director on cadet records, travel, and mail. In addition, this position is privy to sensitive data which includes dealing with the needs of cadets. It requires in-person and phone contact with parents and other family members, civic groups, schools, and other government agencies. In coordination with the Director, this position handles the day-to-day requirements of the Challenge Academy Headquarters, to include managing and developing deadlines, prioritizing tasks to completion, input into complex databases to maintain program information, and prepares statistical data analysis for reports, assisting departments with Academy/Cadet related requirements and documentation, as well as managing the daily administrative requirements of the office and program. 

Salary Information

 

Pay for this position will be $21.66/hr.

This position is in the 02/11 pay schedule/range.  A 12-month probation will be required. 

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday - 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

This position has the following conditions of employment:

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. 

In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check which includes an FBI fingerprint- based background check. 

Acquire and maintain certification in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training as prescribed by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

 

Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with all of the following:

  • Working as a point of contact, receptionist.
  • Maintaining files/records

In addition to the minimum qualifications, Well-Qualified candidates will also have experience with any of the following:

  • Experience in mail distribution
  • Ordering inventory 
  • Managing a calendar
