Introduction

 

Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center (SRSTC) within the Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting to fill multiple Registered Nurse positions in Mauston, WI. 

SRSTC is a nationally recognized facility for the treatment of sex offenders committed under Wisconsin’s Statute 980. As a registered nurse, you will be utilizing the nursing process in the provision of routine and complex patient cares in both a clinic and skilled care unit setting. New nurses are provided one-to-one orientation to meet individual learning needs. An opportunity to work side-by-side with experienced nurses is also provided. Position Summary

 

As a Nurse at SRSTC, you will use the nursing process to implement nursing interventions in basic and complex patient situations in both a clinic environment and specialty care unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, completing daily nursing assessments, activating medically approved protocols, responding to medical and/or psychiatric emergencies, administering medications and working closely with physicians in the provision of medical and psychiatric care, planning and implementing medication teaching, promoting health, and prepare patients for medical procedures. 

Work hours will be on a rotating schedule of days. Currently available shift:

  • 8-hour PM shifts 2:00pm-10:30pm, and every other weekend

Salary Information

 

Starting salary is between $41.61 and $48.16 /hour (approximately $86,500 and $100,100 annually), based on years of licensure. Additional increases are based on years of licensure in the chart below.

  • $1.40 /hour differential for 1st shift RNs that work hours between 6pm and 6am.
  • $3.90 /hour differential for permanent 2nd or 3rd shift RNs for work hours between 6pm to 6am.
  • A $3.00 /hour temporary add-on will be paid for hours worked Saturday and Sunday. 
  • $0.80 /hour weekend differential applies to worked shifts. 
  • $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with the facility in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation. 
  • A 12-month probationary period is required. 
  • The pay schedule and range is 11/02. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

 

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility after their start date.

Qualifications

 

At a minimum, you’ll need the following:

  • Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin. This includes graduate nurses within 3 months of graduation. Must have graduate nurse permit upon hire.
  • Experience or education related to performing physical and mental health assessments.
  • Experience, education, or interest in nursing practice with a complex patient population.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.

It would also be great if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working in a secure healthcare setting.
  • Experience in medical-surgical nursing.
  • Experience working in a psychiatric setting.
