Introduction

 

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA), is hiring an HVAC Refrigeration Specialist- Advanced. This position will be based / headquartered out of one of the following counties and will serve the entire Construction Facilities Management Office Area  6, ten-county region which includes: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Walworth, Washington.

The selected location that the incumbent will be based out of is depended upon applicant preference and space availability.  A work vehicle and all required tools will be provided for the selected candidate. 

The schedule for this position will be five, 8-hour shifts per week or four, 10-hour shifts per week. The exact schedule will be determined with the candidate upon hire.

Position Summary

 

The HVAC Refrigeration Specialist- Advanced performs high-level Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) work at various DMA locations in Area 6. The position requires programming and installation knowledge of Network 8000, Metasys, Honeywell, Trane Automated Logic, and Carrier DDC control systems. The HVAC Refrigeration Specialist- Advanced is also responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment associated with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, humidity control and boiler operations and their related electrical systems, equipment, and various controls. The position will also perform some plumbing and electrical repairs.

Salary Information

 

Starting pay will be $31.27 per hour. This position is in the 03-15 pay schedule/range.  A 12-month probation may be required.

The schedule for this position will be five, 8-hour shifts per week or four, 10-hour shifts per week, based upon candidate preference and space availability. The exact schedule will be determined with the candidate upon hire.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must possess or able be to obtain a valid Universal Technician certification for handling refrigerants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency within 6 months of hire.

2. Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.

3. Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.

4. In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check. 

5. Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.

 

State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:

Must have a valid driver's license

Minimum of two year's driving experience

Must be 18 years of age or older

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:

Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years

An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months

A suspension or revocation of the driver's license

 

Qualifications

 

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will have experience with the following:

•Experience with installing, diagnosing, and repairing commercial/industrial HVAC systems. 
 

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preferred qualifications for the position include any of the following:

•Significant experience with installing, diagnosing, and repairing commercial/industrial HVAC systems. 
•Experience with installing, scheduling, and programming DDC controls. 
•Experience with installing, diagnosing, and repairing commercial/industrial refrigeration systems. 
•Experience with installing, diagnosing, and repairing HVAC actuators, dampers, VAV’s, pumps and other related components. 
•Experience with maintaining and/or replacing electrical units such as motors, pumps, limit switches, thermostats, and other HVAC related components. 
•Possession of a valid Universal Technician certification for handling refrigerants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
