The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is recruiting for a limited-term employment (LTE) Therapy Assistant-Entry, to join our dedicated Activities team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and spouses of veterans. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

Position Summary

 

Under the general supervision of the Therapist Supervisor for the assigned Wisconsin Veterans Home, this position participates and assists in the development and implementation of an activity therapy program for an identified case load. The Therapy Assistant assists in the planning and implementation of the activity program and maintains daily attendance records. This position may direct the efforts of volunteers assisting with activities and provides safe transportation for members to and from Activities programs conducted on-and off-campus. Therapy Assistants adhere to all Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs’ (WDVA) policies, procedures and regulations related to member care.

Salary Information

 

Starting wage is $18.42 per hour.

 

Therapy Assistant-Entry is in pay schedule-pay range 06/10. For current or eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire.

 

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

 

 

Job Details

 

Schedule details: 

 

M-F 8-4:30 and occasional weekend coverage; for 6-8 weeks 

 

LTE jobs are limited to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.

 

Physical requirements These requirements cover the major and essential functions of the position but are not necessarily representative of all duties which this position may be assigned to perform.

 

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

 

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

  • Training or experience planning, implementing, or coordinating vocational and recreational activities.
  • Experience completing forms, documentation, or creating reports.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekend, holiday, early mornings, and early evenings as needed.

 

Well-qualified applicants will also have the following:

 

  • Experience working directly with individuals with mental health disorders, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities.
