The Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) within the Division of Access and Opportunity is seeking applicants for a School Psychologist – Senior. This is a full time, school year position (88%). WSD is a residential school dedicated to serving students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deafblind. Our team is committed to providing a rich, bilingual-bicultural educational environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The School Psychologist – Senior provides a range of services and duties selected and adapted to the unique educational, psychological, emotional, mental health communication needs of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind children, aged 3-21, under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services. These duties include conducting psychological, educational, and vocational assessments and diagnoses; providing counseling; collaborating with pupil services and diagnostic teams; coordinating intake procedures and processes; assisting with outreach evaluations; connecting with community resources; and consulting with staff and parents/caregivers regarding student needs.

This position is in the classification of School Psychologist – Senior. It is a 0.88 FTE and considered a full-time school-year position. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $30.00–$43.66 per hour (approximately $54,912–$79,950 per year, prorated for the 0.88 FTE). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. 

This position is eligible for an additional $1.00 per hour add-on for fluency in American Sign Language (ASL). This position is in pay schedule 12, range 63. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Special notes: Candidate must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) upon hire. An American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating level of at least 3+ by the end of probation is required.

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a School Psychologist (61 or 62) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. In order to be eligible for this licensure, a candidate must meet all of the requirements outlined by DPI, which includes holding a Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited university, college, or professional school.

Travel: Travel within the State of Wisconsin may be required approximately once per month during the school year. Reimbursement parameters for travel will be discussed during the interview process.

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at the WI School for the Deaf located at 309 West Walworth Avenue in Delavan, WI. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). This position requires full-time, in-person presence at the headquartered location during the school year. 

Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.  A TB screen will be required prior to start.

Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

• Administering school-based testing and assessments for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind children, ages 3–21.
• Providing counseling and/or social-emotional supports in a school-based setting for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind children.
• Collaborating with multi-tier, multi-department teams (e.g., diagnostic, educational, and residential staff).
