As the Oncology Data Specialist, you will be responsible for data editing activities that meet current statutory mandates and federal reporting guidelines. You will make quality improvement recommendations to management for data edit procedures, and work collaboratively with management on the implementation of data edit procedure improvements. In addition, you will be responsible for the evaluation of cancer data quality and implementation of cancer data quality improvements. You will:
- Review data quality through internal auditing processes including implementing cancer case data collection,
- Perform cancer case abstracting, consolidating, case finding, and coding,
- Coordinate the data editing process,
- Assist in developing and maintaining registry services that support surveillance and case ascertainment.
You will be the lead for utilizing eMaRC to process and store incoming electronic pathology reports and assist in maintaining operations that support surveillance and case ascertainment, such as identifying, communicating with, and monitoring pathology laboratories that report to DHS or should report to DHS.
You will function as an expert for the cancer incidence data collected from hospitals, clinics, laboratories and physicians per WI State Statute 255.04 and for cancer mortality information from death certificate files. You will conduct both one-on-one and statewide trainings and conduct and record web-based trainings for reporting facilities on RegistryPlus information systems, cancer casefinding and abstracting to ensure high quality data meet all state and federal guidelines.
You will be responsible for researching and reviewing cancer literature to ensure the most relevant information is used in trainings and announcements, and for creating WCRS reporter page website and web-based trainings. You will also be responsible for training WCRS staff on evolving abstracting software updates, coding and staging requirements.
