Position Summary

 

This position will interpret and analyze complex financial data, reconcile agency accounts, and complete the Comprehensive Annual Fiscal Report for WDVA’s funds. The incumbent will provide technical advice and oversight related to fund operations.

The position reviews and analyzes current financial systems, processes, procedures, and policy to ensure proper fiscal control and compliance with rules and regulations. This includes participating in the development of policies and procedures as well as reporting to ensure balance sheet accounts, projects, assets, and all fiscal transactions are being recorded correctly in the accounting system.

The incumbent develops and applies complex expense and revenue allocation methodologies impacting numerous appropriations and across several funds. The position also monitors and reconciles payroll adjusting entries between the HR and Finance modules in the state accounting software. In addition, this position participates in the reconciliation and close-out of capital improvement projects.

Salary Information

 

The starting salary for this position is between $37.00 - $42.00 an hour ($76,960 - $87,360 annually). Additional compensation of $1.00 per hour may be given for candidates with an active CPA license in Wisconsin or another state. The Accountant – Senior classification is in pay schedule and range 07-03.

Salaries are dependent on candidate qualifications. Compensation for current State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

This position is eligible to work remotely after an initial training period. Remote work is intended to be performed primarily in the State of Wisconsin. High speed internet access is a requirement of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change based on business needs.

Due to the nature of this position’s duties, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check prior to appointment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

Qualifications

 

Minimally-qualified applicants will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or the equivalent training and experience (e.g., analysis of financial statements/reports, balance sheets, auditing, cost accounting, etc.); and
  • Experience utilizing an automated accounting system; and
  • Experience preparing financial reports; and
  • Account reconciliation experience.

Well-qualified candidates will also have:

  • Public sector accounting experience (e.g., utilizing the Wisconsin Accounting Manual, etc.); or
  • Experience interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); or
  • Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
