ECB is the state agency that delivers educational, noncommercial, and public safety media via Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. We are seeking a Broadcast Engineer (Media Telecommunications Technician Entry or Senior) for our Field Engineering team.

The Broadcast Engineer serves under general supervision of the Regional Technical Manager and is based at one of the agency’s field sites in Middleton or Highland, WI. Please note that Fennimore, WI is listed as the city location in WiscJobs instead of Highland, WI, since it is the closest designated city to the Village of Highland.

Position Summary

 

The incumbent will report to the regional technical manager and provide construction, maintenance and repair support for a wide range of predominately high-power Radio Frequency electronic equipment and systems for the ECB including DTV, Broadcast Interconnect, EAS, AMBER, FM, State/Federal All Hazards Radio, AM, satellite downlink systems, and Wisconsin Public Radio facilities. 

Special Requirements: 

  • Requires regular standby or on-call status, which will be compensated in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
  • A valid Wisconsin driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one’s own timely transportation throughout the workday, is required.
  • Must be capable of lifting objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance.

Salary Information

 

This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 06-63. The starting hourly rate for the Broadcast Engineer (Media Telecommunications Technician, entry or senior) position will be $32.00 to $35.00 per hour depending upon candidate qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Due to the nature of the position, ECB will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. ECB does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

This position involves regular and frequent travel (25%). The selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license that meets the State’s Risk Management requirements and provide evidence of auto insurance if using a personal vehicle for work or have the ability to obtain reliable transportation on a consistent basis.

Qualifications

 

Qualified applicants will have education, training or experience in EACH of the following (regardless of level):

  • Safely repairing, analyzing, and troubleshooting equipment failures.
  • Managing and performing periodic maintenance requirements as related to complex systems and equipment. 
  • Interpreting diagrams and electrical prints.

In addition to having all of the above, applicants at the Senior level will have education, training or experience with EACH of the following:

  • AM/FM radio and television broadcast engineering including high power RF systems, IBOC HD radio, ATSC systems, and studio to transmitter link systems.
  • Network monitoring tools and systems, voltage meters, spectrum analyzers, power meters and network analyzers.
