ECB is the state agency that delivers educational, noncommercial, and public safety media via Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. We are seeking a Broadcast Core Systems Engineer (IS Technical Services Specialist) for our Core Engineering team.

The Broadcast Core Systems Engineer serves under general supervision of the Director of Core Engineering and is headquartered at the Vilas Communications Hall in Madison, WI. Occasional remote work requests may be granted with supervisor approval based on projects and departmental need.

Position Summary

 

ECB’s Broadcast Core Systems Engineer serves as an expert point of contact for broadcast solutions providing real-time support for on-air and production staff to assure the quality, reliability, and consistency of delivered broadcast products. The incumbent will identify and resolve complex and varied technical issues related to Educational Communications Board’s (ECB) and Wisconsin Public Media’s (WPM) radio infrastructure delivery. They will plan and oversee the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of broadcast automation, digital audio workstations, broadcast content management systems, hardware, and security protocols. The incumbent will also serve as end-user trainer for systems used to deliver Wisconsin Public Radio’s (WPR) content. 

Special Requirements:

  • Requires a variable, non-traditional work schedule including some nights and weekends. 
  • Requires regular standby or on-call status, which will be compensated in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
  • Requires frequent in-state travel (15%).

Salary Information

 

This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 07-33. The starting hourly rate for the Broadcast Core Systems Engineer (IS Technical Services Specialist) position will be between $40.00 - $46.00 per hour ($83,200.00 and $95,680.00 annually), depending on candidate qualifications, plus excellent benefits. 

For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Due to the nature of the position, ECB will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. ECB does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

This position involves regular and frequent travel (15%). The selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license that meets the State’s Risk Management requirements and provide evidence of auto insurance if using a personal vehicle for work or have the ability to obtain reliable transportation on a consistent basis.

Qualifications

 

Qualified applicants will have EACH of the following: 

  • Experience working with broadcast automation systems, including system design, implementation, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Experience implementing and supporting audio over Internet Protocol in support of production and live broadcasting. 
  • Experience working in support of complex broadcast operations, including training and supporting colleagues, prioritizing and resolving issues, and recommending solutions.
