The DPI WI Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) is currently seeking applicants for a full-time, school-year (88%) Teacher specializing in orientation and mobility. 

WCBVI operates a residential school for state residents, ages three to twenty-one who are blind or visually impaired and/or have multiple disabilities. The school provides academic and career education onsite.

Position Summary

 

Under the supervision of the WCBVI Center Director, this position will be responsible for providing individualized orientation and mobility instruction for students who are visually impaired and attend WCBVI/WSBVI. Responsibilities will also include evaluating student skills and needs, preparing behavioral objectives, completing progress reports and consulting with staff, other professionals and parents.

Salary Information

 

Depending on qualifications, starting salary will be between $20.65 - $34.03 per hour (approximately $37,797 - $62,288), in accordance with the provisions of the current Compensation Plan. Additional compensation up to $2.97 per hour may be given for relevant credits beyond a Bachelor's degree. A twelve-month probationary period will be required. This position is in pay schedule 13, pay range 04.

A sign-on bonus of $2,000 will be offered to eligible employees.

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.

This position is located at WI School for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 1700 West State Street in Janesville, WI.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, a non-resident authorized to work in the U.S. without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

A TB screen will be required prior to start.

Qualifications

 

A minimally qualified applicant must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Orientation and Mobility (O060) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
