The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Internal Services, Bureau of Technology Services is accepting applications for a Management Information Chief for leading DNR IT GIS section.

This position will be located in GEF 2 (Central Office), Madison.

This recruitment may be used for any similar vacancies that become available in the near future. Remote work will be available, after the initial onboarding period. The exact amount is based on program need and supervisor discretion.

Position Summary

 

Under the general supervision of the DNR IT Director, this is the senior most GIS position in the DNR accountable for strategy, technical direction, investment justifications and performance outcomes. This position leads the delivery excellence of GIS, cartographic and data visualization services to the DNR programs, enterprise and state organizations and other entities engaged in providing geographic/cartographic information to their staff and constituents.

Salary Information

 

Management Information Chief starting salary is between $55.96 - $63.94 / hour ($116,396.80 - $ 130,228.80) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.

Management Information Chief classification is in schedule-range 70 – 02. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to job offer. Eligibility to work in the United States (I9 Requirement): The Department of Natural Resources does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. Probationary Period: A Two-year Career Executive trial may be required.

Remote Work:  May occur as per department telework guidelines and supervisor approval.

Travel: This position is in the DNR Central Office in Madison and has statewide responsibilities. This position may entail limited travel within the state for meetings, conferences, staff training, etc. as needed. Telework will follow the DNR’s standards and policies.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have experience with each of the following qualifications:

  • Leading IT organizations or cross-functional project teams, including responsibility for staff, budget, and service delivery to meet current and future needs.
  • Implementing GIS and data related standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Setting multi-year strategic direction, managing projects using Agile, DevSecOps, or other modern practices and overseeing operation of solutions using ESRI GIS platforms and data visualization tools such as Tableau.
  • Evaluating business and legal/regulatory requirements, collaborating/negotiating with business partners, and delivering services to meet these requirements.

In addition, highly qualified candidates will have experience with one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Representing IT in leadership forums, governance groups and professional organization and ability to communicate technical strategy to business leaders. 
  • Planning and leading transformational technology initiatives in a complex and dynamic environment by using emerging technologies and methods.
  • Managing at least 20 full-time IT employees that range from subject matter experts to recent graduates
