The PK-12 Instruction Section within the Bureau of Teaching and Learning is seeking applicants for a World Languages & Global Education Consultant position. If you would like to support educators and shape statewide world language and global education in Wisconsin, please apply today!

Position Summary

 

This position provides state level leadership, advocacy, coordination, technical assistance and consultation related to programs involving world languages, multilingual learners, and global education.

The responsibilities include: 

  1. Provision of leadership for world language and global education programs in Wisconsin public schools, and in partnership with institutions of higher education.
  2. Provision of leadership for world language and global education related to the implementation of Department of Public Instruction programs and policies. 
  3. Provision of leadership and consulting services in world language and global education for state, regional, federal, and international partnerships. 
  4. Support for statewide efforts to support the needs of multilingual learners and the local education agencies that support these learners.

These responsibilities are accomplished through implementation of Department of Public Instruction programs and policies related to schools and by working as a collaborative member of the PK-12 Instruction Section, the DPI, and with individuals representing universities, school districts, and CESAs and organizations representing  world language education and multilingual learners.

Salary Information

 

This position is in the Education Consultant classification. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $35.00 - $48.50 per hour (approximately $72,800 - $100,880 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required.

This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Job Details

 

Remote Work: This position allows for up to 100% remote work within the State of Wisconsin, with the expectation that the employee maintains secure, high-speed internet access. Remote work from neighboring states may be approved only in very rare and limited circumstances. Please note that remote work arrangements may be rescinded at any time based on business needs, and employees may occasionally be required to report to a Wisconsin work location on short notice.

Travel: This position includes occasional in-state travel (i.e., about once per month) and infrequent out-of-state travel (i.e., about once per year).

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at 201 W. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A TB screen will be required prior to start.

Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

 

Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications.

A minimally qualified applicant must have all the below:

  • Experience with K-12 world language education or global education as a classroom educator, developing curriculum, or providing educational leadership (e.g., department chair, district leader for English as a second language program, educational consultant, etc.)

  • Experience with one of the following:

    • Developing or implementing state or district-level K-12 educational policy

    • Implementing K-12 education standards

    • Evaluating a K-12 program 

  • Experience executing an equitable practice in K-12 education (e.g., providing multilingual learner support, enacting culturally sustaining practices, etc.)

  • Experience developing and delivering professional learning, technical assistance, or coaching to educators regarding K-12 world language education or global education

Please note that a college degree is not required for this position.

Well-qualified applicants will also have some of the following:

  • Experience applying research and best practices in world language pedagogy and multilingual education (e.g., designing curriculum and instructional materials for a world language program, administering a language proficiency assessment, etc.)

  • Experience leading or co-facilitating a state or national education-related recognition program (e.g., Seal of Biliteracy, educator awards, Global Scholars initiatives, etc.)

  • Experience collaborating with a higher education institution/faculty or teacher preparation program

  • Experience working with multiple community organizations, workforce development agencies, or international organizations
