The Bureau of Community Nutrition is seeking applicants for a Nutrition Program Consultant position. In this role, you will travel throughout Wisconsin supporting programs that provide healthy meals to children and adults, contributing to their wellness, growth, and development. You will collaborate with a variety of partners, including childcare providers, afterschool programs, emergency shelters, adult day care centers, and schools to ensure programs operate effectively and in compliance with state and federal requirements.

Position Summary

 

This position serves as a consultant in providing leadership, direction, and oversight for program improvements for nutrition programs. In addition, this position will plan and conduct evaluations of nutrition programs throughout the state for compliance with established regulations and department policies. Provide technical assistance and training to agencies in interpreting and achieving compliance with state and federal regulations. Work on established projects to facilitate team initiatives. The work is performed independently with responsibility for the following nutrition programs: Child and Adult Care Food Program, Special Milk Program, and the Summer Food Service Program for Children.

Job Details

 

Remote Work: This position allows for up to 95% remote work within the State of Wisconsin, with the expectation that the employee will maintain secure, high-speed internet access. Remote work from neighboring states may be approved only in very rare and limited circumstances. Please note that remote work arrangements may be rescinded at any time based on business needs, and employees may occasionally be required to report to a Wisconsin work location on short notice.

TravelThis position will travel approximately on average, three times/week. Travel will be mainly in-state and overnight.  Occasional out of state and overnight travel may be required. 

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at 201 W. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A tuberculosis screen will be required prior to start.

Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

 

Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications.

A minimally qualified applicant must have all the below:

  • Experience developing program evaluation reports OR providing technical assistance with follow-up communication 

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel), Google Drive, or similar 

  • Experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines using workload management strategies (e.g., prioritization, organization, time management)

  • Experience working with at least one USDA Child Nutrition Program or similar state/federal food assistance program (e.g., NSLP, SBP, SMP, WSDMP, SFSP, SSO, CACFP, WIC, or SNAP)

Well-qualified applicants will also have:

  • Experience conducting or participating in evaluations of nutrition programs to monitor for compliance of federal and/or state regulations

  • Experience developing or conducting sessions/workshops on food service topics (e.g., Program compliance, food service operations, sanitation safety, storage of commodities, or nutrition and learning)

  • Experience developing methods/techniques to improve food service operation and/or nutritional quality of meals/ snacks
